WHO WE HELP

Corinna and thousands of other children like her have been left behind whilst their parents search for work in the West. Looked after by neighbours or other family members, some haven’t heard from their parents in years.

Along with the elderly, who previously would have relied on their children to care for them in their old age, there are many thousands of people struggling to survive this winter, left behind in villages and communities scattered across Eastern Europe.

In nearly all these cases the state can offer very little help so imagine the difference a parcel of food would make to a family like Corinna’s who cannot even afford the 25p for a school dinner. By sponsoring food parcels your church, school or organisation can provide much needed food for Corinna, and others like her, living in terrible poverty in Eastern Europe.

The project is very simple to run and provides a great focus for your harvest assembly, service or thanksgiving - after all, what better way is there to remember all we have been given, than to give to those who have so little?

In brief

Children at risk: The only hot meal this child and many others receive each day is made in a soup kitchen using food sponsored by Harvest for the Hungry.

Families living in poverty: It's hard to believe that in Europe today there are families living in terrible housing with mud walls and floors, no electricity or running water, and dependant on what they can grow to survive.

The Elderly: In many parts of Eastern Europe over half the monthly pension for an elderly person will be spent on keeping warm. After the rent and other bills are paid, there is very little money left to buy food.

The Homeless: In Romania, living in the underground pipe system is often the most effective way to stay warm, but there is still no food for the homeless except for scavenging the bins.
