Protests and Poverty in Romania
CASA Grace work with vulnerable families in Romania
You may have seen in the news recently protests in cities across Romania, some of them the largest ever in the past 20 years. They began in support of a popular government figure resigning over the government’s proposed health reforms. The protests have now widened into hostility towards government austerity measures adopted in response to the economic crisis.
As in many European countries, these measures have produced cuts to salaries and benefits which are hitting particularly hard those with very little to start with. For CASA Grace (Christian Agency for Social Action) in Oradea in Romania this has meant even more clients than ever needing their help. The CASA Grace team help vulnerable families with material and financial assistance, counselling, educational activities, parenting courses and support groups.
- Pray that the protests in Romania will remain peaceful
- Pray for Monika Mahr who has to juggle the responsibilities of director and fundraiser at CASA Grace. Pray for wisdom for her.
- Pray that CASA Grace will be able to increase their donor base and receive more regular support, which is needed more than ever now.
