‘I was in prison and you came to visit me’
Mircea and Ronela Cristian
Rock of Ages prison ministry in Constanta, Romania have opportunities to bring the children of women prisoners to visit their mothers. Rock of Ages pay for the transport and food for the visit and also enable the mother to give their child a small gift. So far this has been done in just one prison. The prison authorities are helpful with these visits but there are limits due to the costs involved. If Rock of Ages had more money available they would love to do this in three other women’s prisons.
Rock of Ages are also allowed – with suitable prisoners and with the help of prison guards – to take prisoners out of the prison building to do something for the community. One group have helped clean up an area in Constanta. Another group went to a nursing home to sing carols to the residents at Christmas. This brought smiles to the faces of the elderly and also encouraged the prisoners as they were able to do something for others.
Mircea and Ronela Cristian, who head up Rock of Ages, write “It was our prayer that God will use us for all the prisoners who are speaking the Romanian language, but it seems that He wants from us to use the experience we gained over the years, even more.” Last year they visited Moldova, where some speak Romanian, and found potential opportunities to help with the provision of training and literature. They have also been invited to help start new prison work in Italy, so are waiting for God’s timing to do this.
- Pray for God’s wisdom and direction for Rock of Ages as they consider expanding their work outside of Romania.
- Thank God for opportunities given to bring encouragement to women in prisons through visits of their children.
- Pray that Rock of Ages will receive support, in both finances and prayer, for all that they are doing now and all that they hope to do in the future.
