Situation in Russia

We have been asked to pray urgently for the situation in Russia, where the freedom of Protestant evangelical organisations, in particular, is being severely restricted. Alarmingly, some organisations have had to close down for, for example, failing to carry out certain requirements which have been sprung upon them.

Please join with us to pray for the work of Compassion Ministries in Moscow. Pray that the work with the poor and the marginalized will be unhindered. Pray too for Galina Dzhuzenova and her team in these changing circumstances.

Montenegro - Stanisa Surbatovich

Over the summer church planter Stanisa and his family suffered several break-ins and security is a constant concern for them. They will be making improvements to their property so that it is less of a risk but also want to be good stewards. Also, they have had problems with their computers which have affected communication.

Please pray for Stanisa as he deals with these recurring problems. Pray that they may be sorted out so that he may be more effective in his ministry without these distractions. Please also ask God to bless Stanisa with better health and that any potential problems may similarly be cleared up.

New house groups in Bosnia

Sinisa and Olja Stojkovic in Banja Luka, Bosnia have sent us news of changes recently made to their church meetings. After much prayer they have changed from holding weekly church meetings to holding one Sunday meeting each month and also running house groups regularly. They have been very encouraged by the response to this and find that some who had problems associated with attending a church building on a Sunday now enjoy coming to the house groups.

Please pray that people will continue to attend their house groups regularly and that they will mature spiritually through meeting together in this way. Please also pray that the church as a whole will experience growth. Ask God to give wisdom to Sinisa and Olja as they oversee this work of God.

Pray for Moldova

Please join with us in praying with our partner Mark McCormick in Moldova for a number of forthcoming events being held this autumn.

On Sunday 5th October the church is holding a harvest outreach mission with a team from the USA. In the evening of 5th there will be a women's meeting with speakers from the USA. Then on 9th there is further outreach in the village of Gotesti.

Please pray that these events will be a means by which the church can reach out to the many lost and needy in the villages.

The church renovation project in Sombor is almost completed but the debt has not yet been paid off for the work. A fundraiser had been planned to take place in July but had to be postponed as it only had a very poor turnout. A new fundraising event has been planned for September.

Please join with the church in prayer for this situation. Please pray that the funds required will be received. Please also pray for the event re-scheduled for September, that this time it will be a success and help the financial situation.

Prayer for Serbia

Please pray for Serbia, particularly following the arrest of Radovan Karadzic.

Please pray that tensions will not be stirred up but that peace and patience will prevail. Please also pray for the government in Serbia, for wisdom and justice.

Sarajevo, Bosnia and Herzegovina

Pastor Slavko Hadzic's church in Sarajevo have opened a clinic in their church building which runs for four hours a week. Here people can receive medical help from a doctor who is a member of the church as well as spiritual help. It attracts people from other churches and people who haven't previously been in contact with a church.

Please join us in praying for the work of the clinic, that many people will feel welcomed and receive good medical care; also that it will be a clear witness.

Please also pray for Pastor Slavko as he recovers from an operation, that he will continue to make a good and full recovery.

'Love Bulgaria'

Mission Possible, Bulgaria will be holding a youth conference for practical evangelism on 18-20 July, followed by a week of youth outreach. They are expecting about 200 young people from Bulgaria to be involved in this. The motto of Mission Possible's youth work this year is 'Love Bulgaria'.

Please pray for the preparations for this event, for the leaders and for all those attending, that it will be a great success and inspire many young people in their faith and witness.

News on Mirco Andreev, Macedonia

We have been praying for Mirco Andreev, who had to make a return to court yesterday. We should know the final verdict by Thursday 10th. Mirco's lawyer seems to think that Mirco will probably be free from any conviction, but please keep praying about this situation. Mirco wants the will of God to be done.

Please also pray for Macedonia. Mirco was at a youth meeting on Saturday in the south and had a great time, sensing God's presence as never before.

Project Romanian Rescue

Project Romanian Rescue (PRR) in Constanta works with street children, providing them with food, care and accommodation. They 'inherited' five children when another Christian project closed in 2006. They are also meant to inherit a home but actually receiving the home has been hindered by a long, drawn out bureaucratic process. Please pray with them that this home will soon be released to them for their work.

Teddy and Didi Oprenov, Sofia, Bulgaria

Please pray with Teddy and Didi as they ask God for the remaining funds needed for the church building work to come in as needed. Teddy and Didi need some quality time as a family and hope to have two weeks off in August. Please remember them in prayer.

Please also pray for the members of their church who seem to be under spiritual attack. A key family in the church are having serious problems in their marriage and two other families are having major problems. Please pray for these situations and for Teddy and Didi as they try to help.

Vladimir Cizmanski, Montenegro

Vladimir and his church are planning to hold a camp for teenagers for the first time. This is due to be in Montenegro from 5th - 12th July. Please pray for the organising of this camp which will be looking at relationships.

The church had the opportunity of handing out humanitarian aid earlier in the year to refugee communities and families in need. They are praying that God will help them find someone who could devote themselves to this work so that it is done in the best way possible. Please join them in their prayers for this.

Mirco appeared before the court yesterday and questioning has been postponed until 7th July. There have been no other developments so far.

URGENT PRAYER - Macedonia

You may already have prayed for Pastor Sasha who leads the church in Kumanovo, north of Skopje, Macedonia who had a vision to build a new church. Tragically, two workers were killed in an accident on the site in the autumn. We asked you to pray because Sasha and the works foreman are due to go on trial for manslaughter.

Mirco Andreev, head of the evangelical church, has now been summoned to appear in court on Monday 23rd June. He and the evangelical church are under investigation for what happened. Mirco and the church want God's will to be done in this situation.

Summer camp in Croatia

Please pray for the children's summer camp being organised by the Evangelical Church of Split to be held from June 28th to July 5th. Children from Bosnia will be invited to take part as well.

Danny and Vera are rejoicing because, after much prayer and fasting, their church is now finally officially registered with the authorities. Registration can be a difficult issue in some countries and this means that they will now have greater freedom to carry out the evangelistic activities they have planned. Give God thanks for this with them.

Mission Possible, Bulgaria

We have been asked to pray urgently for Mission Possible in Bulgaria. A number of their team and family members are struggling with health problems and they feel they are under an attack.

Please pray for the health of the team and their families. Pray particularly for the pastoral conference they are planning for 2nd-4th June; they need physical help and God's wisdom. They also need help in their ongoing work of publishing the ladies' magazine Lia and organising a youth conference in July.

Negotino, Macedonia

Days of Hope, running until 18th May, involves 200 volunteers blessing the town of Negotino by cleaning, painting, street evangelism etc.

Please pray for the city wide evangelistic outreach on 17th, with concerts, dramas, children's activities, when thousands are expected to attend. Pray that it will have a great impact on the city.

Also, on 18th, all of the evangelical churches in Macedonia will meet together for worship, baptisms and the Lord's Supper. It is hoped that 500 will attend. Please pray that this event will be well attended and will be a success.

Mission Possible, Albania

Please continue to pray for Mission Possible's outreach into the areas where many families made homeless by the massive explosion in March are currently sheltered.

Please also pray for the two Alpha courses running, which are having encouraging results. Also pray for the youth group leader as he preaches and involves the group in sports.

PRR Inspection - thanks

Project Romanian Rescue (PRR) have passed the official inspection of their home for children and have been praised for being "a model of good practice". This means they can now obtain the licence to continue with their work. Praise God for this answer to prayers.

Please continue to pray for PRR. They are considering a partnership with Constanta Social Services to help run a residential centre for youth, something they have had on their hearts for some time. This could be an excellent opportunity but they are also aware that working in partnership could bring particular issues and challenges. They have asked for prayer so that they know clearly if this is God's will and to 'go for it' or not.
